"The Dictator" is funny, in addition to being obscene, disgusting, scatological, vulgar, crude and so on. Having seen Sacha Baron Cohen promoting it on countless talk shows, I feared the movie would feel like deja vu. But no. He establishes a claim to be the best comic filmmaker now working. And in a speech about dictatorships, he practices merciless political satire.
So, this mysterious Super Bowl teaser popped up on YouTube today, with Matthew Broderick reprising his role as Ferris Bueller, 26 years after his fateful day off. Says the YouTube blurb: "We hate to be such a tease, but on a day like today, we just have to. Stick it out until the Super Bowl, or take a 'day off' on Monday and catch the big reveal." It could be for sausages, although Abe Froeman might not have $3.5 million lying around. He seems to be in a hotel room—so, perhaps a hotel chain or a vacation marketer? Any other guesses?
UPDATE: Jalopnik says the Bueller spot is for Honda: "A source familiar with Honda's operations hinted to us earlier this year that the company was going to do a Ferris Bueller-style ad for the Super Bowl starring none other than Matthew Broderick. The source also added that the spot was going to mimic much of the original film, except this time prominently featuring Hondas. The big jump the two valets do in Cameron's dad's Ferrari? We hear this time it's going to be a Honda CR-V. Honda is pouring a lot of money into this ad and, according to our source, hired The Hangover writer/director Todd Phillips to put it all together."
Amy Winehouse, who died on Saturday (July 23), had a strong history on Billboard U.S. charts despite releasing just two albums -- the Grammy-winning "Back to Black" and her 2003 debut, "Frank" -- during her career.
"Back to Black" reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in March 2008, almost a year after it debuted, spending 78 total weeks on the chart. It's sold 2.3 million to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"Frank" is her only other Billboard 200 entry, having debuted and peaked at No. 61 in December 2007. It's sold 307,000 units.
As for her singles, "Rehab" peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2007 and has sold 1.7 million downloads. Her only other Hot 100 hit, "You Know I'm No Good," reached No, 77 in 2008 and has sold 729,000.
The songs were biggest at adult alternative radio, peaking at Nos. 7 and 2, respectively, on Billboard's Triple A airplay chart in 2007. "Rehab" also rose to No. 13 on Pop Songs and No. 14 on Adult Pop Songs.
Unlikely viral video star Rebecca Black has released a follow-up to her first hit, “Friday.” Black’s second music video, “My Moment,” debuted Monday. In less than 24 hours, it was watched more than 1.9 million times on YouTube. It’s also streaming on her website and is available on iTunes.
Sure, a bootleg version of the new teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man may have been taken down yesterday just as quickly as it went up. But that leak essentially forced Sony Pictures Entertainment to push the debut of the studio's official trailer up to today from its originally scheduled premiere at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego on Friday.
